At the foot of the grand Ping Ding Mountain and by the bank of the pretty Taizi River inlays the shining pearl---Liaoning Institute of Science and Technology(LIST). The Institute is province-ranked with multiple subjects. As to the long history, it can be traced back to the foundation of “Benxi Country-run Normal Training Center” in 1914, then the Institute has afterward

experienced the growing courses with the name of “Benxi Steel and Iron School”, “Benxi Steel and Iron College”. Originally the college belonged to National Metallurgy Ministry, and in June of 1998, due to the reforms of national college and university educational management mechanism, the college was put under the jurisdiction of Government Liaoning Province. In November of 2000, Benxi Senior Professional School and Benxi Teachers College incorporated into Benxi Metallurgy College. LIST at present has an educational area of 452167 square meters, and the other 344627 square meters has been planned for future use. The Institute has a build-up area of 236500 square meters and book storage of 583.7 thousand volumes and students number of more than 12077. As one of the key 27 national-emphasized model institute, LIST embraces 13 departments and centers. At present LIST has a teaching body of 1185 full-time faculty members. LIST takes international exchange and collaboration very seriously, and has built up one after another friendly and collaborative relationship with 14 universities and educational organizations, from the United States, Canada, Ukraine, Austria, Japan and other countries. Besides, Mr.Baichuan Quanzhi , a Japanese friend has donated and founded Baichuan Award Capital. With the accorded effort of all working staff of LIST, the Institute has, for 93 years since its foundation, formed a common practice as “Being in Favor of Moral, Diligent Learning, Truth Investigation, and Continuous Innovation”. Confronted with the increasing educational competition, the opportunities and challenges of the new century both existing, LIST has quickened the developing steps in reforms and innovation, consistently insisting on the routine of “Teaching and Learning” as a central task, trying hard to improve the comprehensive strength in running the Institute with the coordinated increase on both connotations and extensions. At present all the faculty members are working hard with enthusiasm on striving to construct the Institute into one well-known in Liaoning Province with multiple subjects, reasonable structure, moderate scale, excellent quality and distinguished characteristics ,then in 2014 when the Institute celebrates its centenary foundation celebration.
